Drunk Sheep
by Gene Scott
The sheep don't know they're sheep.
There's a cup being passed around this country. It's been circulating so long that people stopped wondering what's in it.
They just know it's theirs. Their color. Their side of the table.
You take it because a man on a stage looked straight at you when he said it. And putting it down feels like confessing something you're not ready to say in front of your neighbors.
He promised to protect Medicaid and Medicare—then signed the largest healthcare cut in history. Seventeen million Americans lost their coverage. Not a projection. Gone.¹
He promised to release the Epstein files. When his name turned up in them, he changed course.²
He promised to cut energy costs in half. Instead, utility bills climbed—35 percent.³
He promised to end the Ukraine war in 24 hours. That was a while ago now.⁴
PolitiFact tracked 75 promises. He kept about 19%.⁴
Fourteen percent of Trump voters now say they regret their vote.
Half of Americans find it deeply concerning—that he promised to stand with forgotten people while cutting SNAP, gutting healthcare, and delivering tax cuts to the wealthy.⁵
And yet—MAGA self-identification hit a new high in March 2026. Twenty-five percent of Americans. Sixty-three percent of Republicans.
The base didn't crack. It grew.⁶
I know these people. I live among them.
Men who built their own porches. Women who kept the books. People who never once asked for anything they didn't earn.
When the lies came—and they came from every direction, every party, every suit behind a podium—these people didn't go soft. They went hard.
He says the quiet part loud. That's not nothing after forty years of men in suits explaining why your town is dying.
How Does That Work?
They're not measuring by grocery prices, or utility bills, or the seventeen million who lost their insurance.
They're buying identity. Planting a flag. Enjoying every second their enemies lose their composure.
Grievance doesn't want a payoff—it wants a face.
When he says what that office isn't supposed to say, half this country doesn't see failure. They see proof.
The broken promises don't matter. The empty cup does.⁷
The pitcher never empties—because the pour is the product.
I live two roads from people drinking it. I drink the same water. I just haven't stopped asking what's in it.
They don't ask. Only who it hits when it spills.
The Song
I wrote a song about it. Rod Stewart rocker, 118 BPM, Faces-era shuffle groove, crowd chant in the breakdown. Here it is.
Drunk Sheep
118 BPM — Faces-era rocker
Verse 1
Shoutin' at the TV, drink in hand
Swore that man was gonna save this land
Day One came and the cupboard was bare
Nothing in it but yesterday's air
Said he'd fix your rent, your eggs, your bills
Cut your coverage clean on the Hill
Tab keeps running and the nights grow long
Flock keeps humming the same old song
Pre-Chorus
He cut your cover, raised your card
Buried the files when it hit too hard
Said winning, winning, you'll be sick of it
Brother, you're sick — just not of it
Chorus
Drunk sheep! Keep on drinking!
Drunk sheep! Keep on drinking!
Cup's still red and your cap still fits
Man's a liar but you love his tricks
Drunk sheep — you're in the shit deep!
Verse 2
Meter man said the bill's come due
Three times higher than he promised you
Credit card maxed, they left a mark
Drunk sheep dancing in the neon dark
Tax cut went to the country club crowd
Forgot the working man — just not out loud
Kool-Aid pitcher never seems to dry
Drunk sheep never once ask why
Pre-Chorus
Healthcare gone like a bad last call
Medicaid number on a bathroom stall
SNAP cut, gutted to the floor
Drunk sheep just come back for more
Chorus
Drunk sheep! Keep on drinking!
Drunk sheep! Keep on drinking!
Cup's still red and your cap still fits
Man's a liar but you love his tricks
Drunk sheep — you're in the shit deep!
Bridge
(Backing: He said! He said! He said!)
He said affordable — three times the rent
(He said! He said!)
He said forgotten men — where'd it went?
(He said! He said!)
He said peace — show me the proof
(He said! He said!)
Drunk sheep smiling under the roof
Breakdown
What'd he say? — He said!
Did he mean it? — No way!
You still drinking? — All day!
What'd he say? — He said!
Did he mean it? — No way!
You still drinking? — ALL DAY!
Final Chorus
Drunk sheep! Keep on drinking!
Drunk sheep! Keep on drinking!
Cup's still red and the man still smiles
Pouring Kool-Aid, watch the buckets pile
Man's a liar, got you in too thick
Drunk sheep —
YOU'RE IN THE SHIT DEEP!
Big stop. One bleat. Let it hang.
